Global Warming and Trees

Petroleum fuels: petrol, diesel, natural gas, etc. are majorly hydrocarbons and they combust to produce CO₂, H₂O and energy in engines, furnaces, etc following a general equation bellow.

       Hydrocarbon  + Oxygen → water + carbon dioxide + energy

As seen in the reaction, the process reduces atmospheric oxygen while increasing the greenhouse gas CO₂ concentration in the atmosphere.

Combustion of petrol and diesel produce 2.31 and 2.68 Kg of CO₂ per liter respectively and on average, a mature 10 years old tree can absorb 21.77 Kg of CO₂ per year.
